Here are some before and after pictures of my Eagle scout service project. Huge thanks to the Troop 1130 scouts, parents, and friends. It was a great project, and the school administration has been pretty happy with the results.
Picture of the project site before and after. Stairs are in the main path to restrooms from the football field. Grassy hill area on the left side of the stairs was effectively forming a dam during torrential rains, totally blocking access to the main stairway to the school building and restrooms. This was creating an embarrassing problem for the school particularly during football games with spectators trying to get to the school building navigating through all the mud and rain water...
Close up pictures of the old clogged drain (which was not even sized correctly), and the new larger basin/drain. I re-used the old drain basin (with the green cover) in the corner, and also connected it to the new higher capacity catch basin.
Doing some prep work a day before the project day

The new catch basin & connections.
Preparing the gravel path to the public drain
Picture of the public drain (the lowest elevation at the project site). Note the 4 inch white PVC pipe, now working after removing dirt and debris that clogged it for many years. Gravel pathway is constructed for overflow (in case the pipe gets clogged again or cannot handle rainwater flow during heavy rains).
Flower bed is designed to protect the building from water contact, in the event of rainwater overflow.
Gravel path construction underway
Project near completion...
Compared to how it was before, we were able to fix the problem pretty effectively...
Afternoon crew.
Overall, ~162 hours of volunteer labor.
Several months after the project I received a very nice letter from Mr. Patrick, the sponsor of my project, about how happy he was with the outcome of the project. I was a bit surprised because I did not ask for a letter so, that makes the letter even more special that we were able to help him and the school solve the problem.
Thank you!
